Twenty-seven Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy for fishing in the Indian ocean waters of the Eastern cost yesterday, Eastern sources said. Sri Lankan Naval personnel attacked a group of fishermen from Tamil Nadu with stones when they were fishing near Eastern water, the sources added. The 27 fishermen who were arrested on suspicion were from Tamil Nadu. Four trawlers were also taken into custody by the Navy. It is a sad fact that over 500 fishermen were killed by the Sri Lankan navy in the past three decades after  Kachatheevu  was given to Sri Lanka by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on an accord signed between both the countries in 1974.  ]]>
