Society for Threatened People is holding a meeting in the Swiss city Berne to demand international mediation to prevent dissappearnces in Sri Lanka.

It coincides with the international day of the disappeared that fell yesterday (Aug. 30).

The chief guest on the occasion is Sandya Ekneligoda, the wife of missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.

Meanwhile, relatives of missing persons protested in Vavuniya yesterday asking the government to reveal the fate of their loved ones.

They also participated in a march and a multireligious activity.

According to a UN report issued in 1999, Sri Lanka at the time had the second highest disappearances in the world, numbering 16,384. (SM)
