Sri Lanka Muslim Congress has stated it would contest the forthcoming provincial council elections jointly with the Sri Lankan government. The leader of SLMC Minister Rauff Hakeem has told media that the decision to contest the PC elections jointly was taken at a discussions held with bigwigs of the government on the 11th.

He said the decision to contest jointly with the ruling party was taken after a MoU was reached to establish a separate administrative district for the Muslim community.

The discussion held at Temple Trees was attended by Ministers Maithripala Sirisena, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Susil Premajayanth, Basil Rajapaksa and Dulles Alahapperuma from the ruling party.
