The ‘State Lands Ordinance’ is to be amended on an order by the Sri Lankan President.
According to new amendments the SL President is empowered to acquire land belonging to any individual or organization or hand over, sell or lease any land to anybody. It is reported that the act is to be amended with unlimited authority to the President regarding lands and issuing deeds.
Currently, the proposal for the amendment of the Act has been presented to provincial councils and all councilors who would vote for the amendments are to be given vehicle permits.
The authority the provincial minister and provincial lands commissioner had been given from the 13th amendment would be annulled by this amendment.
It is also reported that the amendments to the Act have been already adopted by the North – Central Provincial Council.
