The anti Sri Lankan sentiments in Tamil Nadu are brewing as India’s Centre itself is increasingly become wary of the Sri Lankan government’s dillydallying over solving issues affecting the Tamils in Sri Lanka., a Colombo weekly reports.
The ethnic Tamil grievances are a thorny issue in Tamil Nadu. The consensus in mainstream Indian politics is that the Sri Lankan government should devolve power to the north and the east, implement the 13th Amendment and resettle the internally displaced persons (IDP). However, on each count, the Government of Sri Lanka has faltered.
India is wary of the doublespeak on the part of the government in Colombo, including SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa who has regularly seemed to backtrack on the assurance he gave to visiting Indian delegates.
