The Sri Lankan Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has promised the President that he would get the TNA back to the negotiating table with the government in order to reach consensus with regard to the reconciliation process.

Basil has said that he already held several discussions with representatives of the TNA along with a powerful Tamil businessman and the TNA has responded positively to the discussion. He has added that he was planning on traveling to India to brief the Indians about the progress made with the TNA.

However, when inquired, a TNA representative denied any knowledge of such a discussion. The TNA member said that following the breakdown in the discussions with the government, the TNA had together with Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had handed a joint proposal to the President on re-commencing the reconciliation process.
