The 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China will be the next major Communist Party Congress in China. It is scheduled to begin at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing at 9am on Thursday and last seven days till November 14.
Vice President Xi Jinping was appointed the secretary-general of the five-yearly event by a preparatory meeting. The congress will be of great importance as China is in a crucial stage of building a modern and prosperous society in all respects, taking on reform and opening up, and accelerating the transformation of the growth pattern. The congress will elect a new set of leaders to the party’s Politburo Standing Committee—China’s top decision-making body.
The agenda for the national congress also includes issues such as to hear and examine the report submitted by the 17th CPC Central Committee, examining the report on the work of Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, deliberating and adopting the amendment to the party’s constitution and to elect the party’s 18th Central Committee and Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
