European Union (EU) says its position right along has been that it favors the 13th Amendment to the Constitution in its existing form.
Speaking to Colombo based The Sunday Leader the European Union Ambassador to Sri Lanka Bernard Savage said he is yet to see the proposed 19th Amendment which will replace the 13thAmendment.
“I haven’t seen the 19th Amendment in detail as yet.
We are on record as being pro Thirteenth Amendment, and encourage the government to hold elections in the Northern Province. But I haven’t seen the contents of the 19th amendment so I cannot comment on it,†he added.
He also said that the Sri Lankan government has not made any request for EU monitors so far for the Northern Elections expected to be held in September.
