India To Pressure TNA Into Lanka’s solution

The Indian government is to exert pressure on the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to fully commit itself to the political process towards Sri Lankan government proposed solution.

It is reliably learnt that New Delhi had intimated the necessity towards pushing the TNA towards supporting a viable political solution in Sri Lanka, during Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s recent visit to India.

Issues such as post conflict reconstruction in the North and the East of Sri Lanka, reconciliation efforts and the acute need for a political solution have rated high on the agenda of the talks between the two governments. Special reference is also reported to have been made on the progress of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) and the Sri Lankan government’s efforts towards effectively implementing the recommendations made on the Commission’s extensive report.

Indian Premier Manmohan Singh has also assured the government that ‘isolated incidents’ such as those recently taken place in Tamil Nadu where anti-Sri Lanka sentiment was clearly exhibited with Sri Lankan travelers to Tamil Nadu attacked and a sporting team returned, will not have an impact on relations between the two countries.
