An 18-year-old Israeli soldier has been killed in a rocket attack Tuesday afternoon.  Also, there is increasing evidence that a ceasefire deal has been reached – brokered by the Islamist Egyptian government, the Globe and mail reports.

Wires reporting that a truce will be declared at 2 p.m. EST and will come in to effect at 5 p.m. EST How long that truce lasts remains to be seen – but if it happens, it will be bring an end to a 7 day conflict that has killed more than 129 Palestinians and four Israelis.

Even as negotiations gained steam, rockets attacks on Israel continue, as do Israeli strikes in Gaza. But the real focus today is on the diplomatic front: U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton is en route to the  region, expected to stop in Israel (Jerusalem), in the West Bank (Ramallah), and in Egypt (Cairo).

Cairo is where a big push has been underway to broker a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. Stay with this live blog as we bring you the latest developments – with insight from our correspondents and experts.
