The prices of vegetables, potatoes and flowers in Nuwaraeliya and other upcountry areas have drastically come down as a result of torrential rains experiencing in the areas. The crops rot due to excessive rains and farmers are unable to find a reasonable price for them.

The brokers and traders making use of the misery of the farmers buy crops at very low prices. According to reports the prices paid for a kilo of vegetables are as follows:  cabbage Rs.53, leaks Rs.38, beet with leaves Rs.38, beet without leaves Rs.50, potatoes – Rs.75, radish Rs.35, tomatoes Rs.35 and carrot Rs.100.
