The brother of slain UNP MP T. Maheswaran is alleging the Sri Lankan government northern military governor’s private secretary was the person who had thrown acid at him on December 29. Thuwarakeswaran, 41, with burn injuries in his back and neck, was admitted to Jaffna Hospital following the attack. Due to safety concerns, he was later taken to a hospital in Colombo, he has told Jaffna’s Udayan newspaper. Thuwarakeswaran has said that the governor’s private secretary Jayakody, a former military officer, had ambushed him in a motorcycle and threw acid at him as he had been leaving Kandasamy Kovil at Nallur after religious observances. He has alleged the assailant had also come after him two days prior to the incident. He has lodged a complaint with Jaffna police regarding the attack.]]>
