The Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has said new amendments would be brought in to the Constitution instead of the preferential system for local government elections in the future.

Addressing the heads of media institutions at Temple Trees yesterday (27th) Rajapaksa has said the draft bill for amendment to local government elections will be presented to parliament on 10th October. He has said new amendments are brought in as there are numerous issues in the preferential voting system that is being followed at present.
