TNA leader R. Sampanthan has informed the eastern province governor that the Rajapaksa regime has not received a mandate to form the provincial administration. He has told BBC Tamil Service that the UNP, the SLMC and the TNA all had contested the EPC polls against the ruling UPFA. The three opposition parties have a combined 22 seats in the 37-seat provincial council, he has noted. However, the UPFA, along with the NFF’s solitary seat, has just 15 seats, and therefore, it has no right ethically to capture power of the EPC, he has said. The UNP has decided to extend conditional support to the TNA to form an administration there.]]>
