The US government has not found any progress in Sri Lanka where the implementation of the resolution adopted at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in March.
The second US backed resolution on Sri Lanka that was adopted in March is to be subjected to an interim review during the September sessions in Geneva.
The US is currently engaged in monitoring the progress made by the government in implementing the UNHRC resolution.
Officials from the US embassy in Colombo have met with representatives from political parties including the UNP, TNA and the SLFP as well as civil society organizations.
However, the US officials have received negative reports on the government’s progress.
The US embassy officials are to prepare a report on the current situation in Sri Lanka to be handed over to the State Department. The US is to use the report to make its submissions at the September UNHRC sessions.
