While the investigation in France is underway, doubts are being raised by several analysts in France, as to why sources attached to the Sri Lanka government are very worried and issuing statements and articles, especially after the assassination of Nadarajah Mathinthiran on the 8th November.
The analysts say that the War in Vanni was successfully completed by Sri Lanka which named it a “war against terrorism” and today brands the assassination which took place in Paris as “factional fighting”.
The French criminal investigation team told the media “Le Parisien”, of 13 November 2012, that one of the suspects held in custody said that “he has been contacted by someone close to the Sri Lanka embassy in France and he was told that in return for the execution of this Tamil leader, he would be given 50.000 Euros and a Sri Lankan passport. All these elements are being verified.”
The Sri Lankan Ambassador in Paris made statements to the media in Colombo, saying he does not want to comment as the matter is under investigation. However, he termed as “ridiculous” accusations that the military intelligence was behind the assassination and that the “culture of lethal violence of the Tiger/pro-Tiger milieu seems to be very much intact”! The Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence published a statement saying that the LTTE in Europe is a threat to Sri Lanka. A pro-government English language media has slandered the assassinated Nadarajah Mathinthiran.
After the Parirthy’s murder, within 24 hours a pro-Sri Lankan government media analyst wrote an article and blamed for factional fighting among Tamils.
It has come as a huge surprise that the Sri Lanka ex-Ambassador to Italy Hemantha Wernakulasuriya, has written an article titled “LTTE Activities And My Mission With Italian Secret Police”, only on 13 November, so many years after he left Italy.
