The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay will not be visiting Sri Lanka next week, the Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry said. A technical team from her office will be in Sri Lanka on September 14 but Pillay will not be coming with the team, a spokesperson at the External Affairs Ministry said. In March this year a US sponsored resolution was adopted on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council calling on the government to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC). The resolution had also urged the Sri Lankan government to obtain technical advice from the office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. However the government, at the time, rejected technical assistance from the UN and instead said a domestic committee will decide on the LLRC recommendations to be implemented.  ]]>
