The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Jaffna District Parliamentarian and the General Secretary of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK), Mavai Senathiraja, was unanimously nominated by the Jaffna Branch of ITAK as its Chief Ministerial candidate at the forthcoming Northern Provincial Council polls.
According to sources, the Deputy General Secretary of ITAK’s Jaffna Branch, and the former Jaffna Municipal Councillor, C.V.K. Sivagnanam, had announced that Mavai Senathiraja would be the Chief Ministerial candidate, at a press briefing held in Jaffna yesterday.
The nomination had been informed to the ITAK’s leadership in Colombo, sources said.
However, sources close to the TNA as well as the ITAK Leader, R. Sampanthan, had said that while nominating Senathiraja had been done by the Jaffna Branch of ITAK, final decision will be taken by the ITAK hierarchy in consultation with the other five constituent parties of the Tamil National Alliance.
