The terrorist investigation unit has summoned the Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian for the Jaffna district Shridharan to the 4th floor of the CID yesterday (18) and has released him after questioning him for 3 hours. He was questioned about the explosive material and CDs said to have be taken into custody from his office in Kilinochchi on 12th January, and he was questioned based on the oral evidence given by the Tamil National Alliance coordinating secretary for the Kilinochchi district Velumalihidan and his secretary Ponkandan who were taken into custody from his office.
The MP has said that the officers who enquired attempted to get an oral statement from him saying that he was a member of the LTTE organization and he has received awards from the LTTE leader Prabhakaran and he completely rejected it.
The MP has said that he was questioned about taking him into custody on suspicion by the Terrorist Investigation Unit of Vavuniya District in 1998 saying that he was a member of the LTTE and releasing him on Courts order.
He has said that the head of the Colombo district branch of the Ilangai Thamil Arasu Katchi and the Senior Attorney at Law K.V.Thavaraj, a Senior Attorney at Law and Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian M.A.Sumanthiran, and the United National Party parliamentarian Jayalath Jayawardene and an Attorney at Law from Chavakachcheri Sajanthan accompanied him to the 4th Floor.
The MP has also said that the people accompanied him were not allowed to the place where he was questioned and he was questioned from 12.00 Noon till 3.00 p.m. and the Police officers questioned him in an honourable manner.
However, the MP has said that he considers this incident as an attempt to make restrictions on his political activities.
