Naam Tamilar party strongly condemned the Sri Lankan government on Wednesday for continuing to block political freedom, reacting to the death of an imprisoned Tamils detainee who had carried out a protest against illegal sentence.
One of the 28 Tamil prisoners transferred from Vavuniya to Mahara following prison protest has died in hospital.
Identified as 29-year-old N. Reuban, he had been receiving treatment at prison hospital for a broken hand.
This morning (July 04), the man had complained about a chest pain and was rushed to Ragama Hospital, where he died.
Party leader and film director Mr Seeman, issuing a statement says “the Tamil speaking people of the island are fearful of another massacre in the near future”. We therefore call upon the international community to be on the alert to protect the Tamil people against the Sri Lankan Sinhala state.
