The first Dhamma school in Jaffna will be opened today (Sept. 30) by Sri Lankan military in a bid to popularize Buddhism in the northern peninsula after the war, said the Lankan defence ministry.

The Pro Sri Lankan government Tamil Buddhists Association is organizing arrangements for the school, which will be opened by the mayor and the district secretary of Jaffna.

President of the Association A. Ravi Kumar has said the measure would help promote religious harmony in Jaffna.
