Three Sri Lankan karatekas could not participate in an international Karate championship at Pollachi town, about 43 km from Coimbatore, as organisers asked them to return to their country following protests by Tamils, Tamil Nadu police said.

The karatekas were supposed to participate in the tourney which began last night. But some activists of Periyar Dravida Kazhakam and other organisations lodged a protest with organisers for inviting them, saying the Sri Lankan government was not allowing Tamils there to live peacefully.

The team, which had arrived in Chennai, was asked to return to their country by the organisers, police said. (PTI)
