Tamil hunger strike in second week

Huddled under blankets in the middle of Olympic village in London, a lone Tamil protester is starving himself.

Mr Gobi Sivanthan wants the International community to intervene and push for an independent investigation to the Sri Lankan war crimes and genocide.

“I want justice for my people,” he explains, his voice weak and cracked.

The men, who are refusing to take food, have been on hunger strike since 22nd of July.

Visitors and human rights activists supporting his cases are extremely concerned for his health. Without solid food, he will soon start to decline in health.

Mr Sivanthan is not the first Tamil hunger striker. In 1987 Amirthalingam Thileepan, a political leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) – starved himself to death against Indian intervention.
