The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is facing problems with its constituent political parties over choosing candidates for the forthcoming Eastern Provincial Council Elections, the Colombo media sources said
The prime Tamil party in the TNA, Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) headed by R. Sampanthan, has been criticized by other constituent parties for taking the upper hand in giving priority to its own candidates, instead of looking into the candidates put forward by other constituent parties, sources said.
Some of the leaders of the constituent parties have even told Sampanthan directly not to be arrogant and be flexible in accommodating the candidates of their choice, sources said.
With ITAK as the main party, TNA comprises TULF, EPRLF, PLOTE and TELO.
The TNA, which currently faces more than a `storm in a tea cup,’ is expected to complete selection of its candidates for the Eastern PC polls in September, this week, sources said.
