The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is ready to take part in the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC), if the Sri Lankan government provides a positive response to the party’s demands.

TNA Parliamentarian, Suresh Premachandran said the Provincial Councils should be given, “all powers including land and police powers except Defence, Foreign and Financial powers.”

He pointed out that though the Provincial Councils have already been given land and police powers according to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, the government has the upper hand on land and… …police matters, as the Concurrent  List prevents the Councils from exercising that power.

Premachandran also said, although the government is seeking to abolish the 13th Amendment, they cannot stay away from giving a solution to the ethnic problem. He said, the party will be informing the international community, including India, in order to get a solution to the ethnic problem.
