TNA says Sri Lanka plans to delay Northern polls

The TNA says the Rajapaksa government is drawing up a sinister plan to delay the holding of the Northern Provincial Council polls.

The Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa last week signed the proclamation to hold the Northern Provincial Council election. However, the TNA notes that the government is looking at initiating legal action in order to delay the election.

TNA parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran has said that the TNA is aware of such a plan and has already taken steps to inform India about it. He has added that the TNA would continue with its campaign for the Northern elections.
