The office and machinery of the Jaffna-based Tamil Daily Uthayan was burnt down by suspected Sri Lankan military group.
Tamil National People’s Front thoroughly condemns this brutal activity. Media freedom is needed for Sri Lanka. It’s our duty to stand beside them when they face threats to enjoy their freedom, said the TNPF press release, signed by its president Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam
and secretary, Selvarasa Kajendran.
The TNPF has called for a credible investigation into the attack on the Uthayan newspaper office in Jaffna.
The press release said that the party was concerned about the series of attacks on Uthayan and urged international community to protect freedom of the media in Sri Lanka.
The Uthayan Jaffna office was attacked and the printing press set on fire by an unidentified group this morning.
