At least two asylum seekers have died and one is missing after their boat hit a reef off Indonesia. According to the local head of immigration, Syamsul Bahri, 25 Tamil asylum seekers had been at sea for two months before the boat’s engines failed and it drifted onto a reef off Indonesia’s coast. He says a fisherman alerted guards on the island prison of Nusakambangan that the boat was in trouble. Twenty-two people were rescued, but two others died and one is still missing. The accident comes during the wet season when there are high seas and storms, making the trip to Australia even more treacherous. (ABC News)]]>
