Sources said the groups included several Muslim factions consisting of around 90 members. It is said that some of these groups were initially with the Pilliyan and Karuna groups.Â
The sources added certain members of the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP), the Eastern chief minister’s paramilitary group, also headed some of the groups. However, the party had denied the allegations claiming that it handed over its entire weapons to the SL government in February 2010.
Sources also said several Muslim groups had also formed after the war, but could be involved in isolated incidents.
