India wants 13th Amendment

The Indian delegation at the UN Human Rights Council today called on Sri Lanka to fully implement the 13th Amendment to the constitution.

Speaking on the US resolution on Sri Lanka submitted to the Council, India raised concerns over the lack of progress in Sri Lanka on addressing accountability issues.

The Indian delegation also welcomed the announcement that elections will be held in the north later this year.

Meanwhile the Pakistan delegation objected to the US resolution saying it will affect the reconciliation process in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan also raised concerns over the failure to include some amendments proposed by Pakistan to the resolution.

The European Union meanwhile welcomed the resolution and urged the UNHRC to keep Sri Lanka on the agenda of the Council.
