Head of Delegation of the EU in Sri Lanka, Ambassador Bernard Savage told The Sunday Leader that the issue will be discussed among EU member states before a decision is taken.
“There are several member states in the EU. They have not decided on a resolution. However it will be discussed,†the Ambassador said.
The US had said last week that it will submit a procedural resolution on Sri Lanka at the February – March UNHRC session.
A visiting US State Department delegation had said that the procedural resolution was a follow up to a resolution on Sri Lanka submitted to the UNHRC last March.
Asked if the EU was satisfied with the progress of the implementation of the recommendations by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), Ambassador Savage said the EU was following with interest the assurances given by the government on the issue.
Several European Union (EU) countries had backed the resolution on Sri Lanka when a vote was taken at the UNHRC last March.
