Tamil MP interrogated by Lankan CID


TNAVanni District Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian, Siva Shakthi Anandan, was interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sleuths at the fourth floor, over his alleged mobile phone conversations with Tamil detainees at the Vavuniya Prison.

Anandan was grilled for more than two hours from 10 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. on Monday. Informed sources said, the CID sleuths had questioned the parliamentarian as to how he developed mobile phone contacts with the Tamil prisoners, who staged a hunger strike, which finally ended in a prison riot at the Vavuniya Prison last year.

Responding to the CID officials, Anandan has said being a Parliamentarian, … people from all walks of life, contact him and they have his residence contact number as well as his mobile phone numbers.

Anandan has also told the CID officials, the prisoners called him from the prison and asked about their court cases, matters related to their release, their living conditions inside the prison and about their families.

The parliamentarian has clarified that he did not say anything to provoke them and inquired only after their welfare and the issues related to their release.

Anandan has admitted he visited the Tamil prisoners at the Vavuniya Prison, along with another TNA Parliamentarian, Selavam Adaikalanathan, when the inmates were staging the hunger strike inside the prison.

According to informed sources, the CID officials has asked Anandan to come to the fourth floor through the Vavuniya Police and he was accompanied to the fourth floor yesterday by Suresh Premachandran, MP and M.A. Sumanthiran, MP.

Anandan is the third TNA parliamentarian to be grilled on the fourth floor by the CID officials followed by S. Sritharan, MP and Suresh Premachandran in the past three months, sources said.
